Tactical Data Links

Tactical Data Links, Key Element in the ROK Armed Forces’ Network-Centric Warfare (NCW)

When it comes to the modern and future network-centric warfare (NCW), tactical data links serve as a key element for combined arms and joint operations centering on a digitized network.

The Republic of Korea (ROK) Armed Forces are currently making intensive investments in developing various types of technology for the purpose of implementing NCW. Various types of tactical data links, in particular, have been developed and are in operation as a means to ensure the distribution of tactical information from the surveillance system to the strike system.

GDL System has secured most of the core solutions required for the establishment of tactical data links and is contributing the efforts toward self-reliant national defense by applying its capabilities and experiences to various weapons systems.

Tactical Data Links for the Ground Forces (KVMF)

The Korea Variable Message Format (KVMF) is a standard tactical data link for ground forces that is applied to all weapons systems of ground forces ranging from detection systems to strike systems. At GDL System, we have developed the KVMF standard by conducting applied research and preliminary research together with the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) and Samsung Thales, and we have been conducting KVMF testing and development projects since 2010.

LINK-11, LINK-14, ISDL

The LINK series, LINK-11, LINK-14, and ISDL, are mainly applied to naval weapons systems and are interoperated with ground bases and command posts. Based on our development experience and know-how, we provide all-encompassing services related to the naval tactical data links such as design and engineering, construction, testing and maintenance.

Joint Tactical Data Link (LINK-K)

The joint tactical data link (LINK-K) developed to improve the capability of the ROK Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force) in performing joint operations enables real-time exchange of tactical information among the weapons systems of all three branches of the ROK Armed Forces. Based on our experience and know-how in developing a wide range of tactical data links, we are endeavoring to provide core solutions in the future through ongoing R&D efforts related to the joint tactical data link (LINK-K).
