KVMF Tactical Data Links

Core Elements of Network-Centric Warfare (NCW)

The ROK Army’s tactical data link (KVMF) provides a standard protocol for exchanging digital tactical information among surveillance systems, command and control systems, and striking systems in real time in a restricted tactical communication environment of ground forces, based on standardized messages.

Standardization of KVMF

The ROK Army’s tactical data link (KVMF) has been standardized by designing over 130 KVMF messages and the MIL-STD-2045-47001D-based application protocol in accordance with the operating environment of the ROK Armed Forces. It was developed in reflection of information exchange required by various weapons systems, thereby supporting interoperability among weapons systems through the KVMF tactical data link. In addition, various procedures and algorithms were developed for the standardization of KVMF to establish standard procedures for KVMF standardization for implementation.

Standard Management Tools for KVMF

For efficient management of enormous amounts of KVMF messages and data related to the MIL-STD-2045-47001D-based application protocol, the KVMF Integrated Database (KVID) has been developed to support the message design. Standard management tools are also provided for effective management and distribution.

KVMF Search Engine

KVMF Data Link Processor

The KVMF data link processor is comprised of a message processor for processing KVMF messages and an application protocol processor for processing the MIL-STD-2045-47001D-based application protocol. The KVMF data link processor is developed according to the KVMF standard, and products of various configurations are provided for the weapons system in question. It is capable of interconnecting with MIL-STD-188-220 interconnection board in order to link to the conventional FM radios and has the ability to interconnect with the new TMMR radios. This supports the troops to full their missions even in a poor communication environment and contributes to the improvement of military communication operation capabilities
